Carbajal to Lead Community Hike and Announce Protections for Central Coast Public Lands.

Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24) will introduce the Central Coast Heritage Protection Act to designate nearly 250,000 acres of public land in the Los Padres National Forest and Carrizo Plain National Monument as wilderness. The wilderness designation is the highest form of protection the government can give to public land. It prohibits roads, vehicles or permanent structures, as well as logging and mining. The legislation also establishes a 400-mile long Condor National Recreation Trail, stretching from Los Angeles to Monterey County.

Hike details:

The hike is about 2 miles roundtrip and will involve a 200 ft elevation gain– so this may not be for everyone. Please judge your ability accordingly, and if you come, wear sturdy walking shoes and bring: a water bottle, a hat, sunblock, and sunglasses. You are welcome to join us at the start of the hike for a short discussion about the Central Coast Heritage Protection Act without participating in the hike.

Please carpool as parking is limited. Dogs should be kept on a leash at all times.
