The first image of a black hole was unveiled by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) Collaboration in 2019, giving humanity its first glimpse into the shadow of the most extreme objects in the universe. The EHT next turned its piercing gaze to the center of our own galaxy—a paltry 25,000 light years away—where a supermassive black hole 4,000,000 times the mass of the Sun violently thrashes. Joseph Farah of Las Cumbres Observatory will tell the story of the massive global effort and bleeding-edge science required to make the first image of the black hole in the heart of the Milky Way.
