Undergraduate cellist Hannah Paulus will present a junior Bachelor of Music recital with pianist and UCSB faculty member Dr. Natasha Kislenko on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 7:30 pm in Karl Geiringer Hall on the UC Santa Barbara campus. The program will include works by György Ligeti, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Frédéric Chopin. Paulus is a student of UC Santa Barbara Professor Jennifer Kloetzel.
Protocols for attending in-person Department of Music events
All patrons 12 years of age and older must show proof of being fully vaccinated* OR provide a negative COVID-19 medical test result (PCR or antigen) taken within 72 hours of the event. Over-the-counter or at-home tests will not be accepted. All patrons must also present a state-issued photo ID in addition to their proof of vaccination/negative test result (photo ID is not required for minors who are accompanied by an adult).
Masks are required in indoor spaces at all times, regardless of vaccination status. Patrons must bring and wear their own face coverings that fully cover both the nose and mouth. Masks are also strongly encouraged at outdoor venues, particularly where social distancing is not an option. Patrons may be asked to leave a venue if they are not adhering to Department of Music health and safety guidelines.
*“Fully vaccinated” means a final COVID-19 vaccine dose was administered at least 14 days prior to the event

About the Artist
Hannah Paulus was six years old when she started learning how to play the cello, and blissfully unaware of the challenges the instruments’ size would eventually pose to travel with. She is now a fourth-year performance student studying with Jennifer Kloetzel at UCSB and has performed many notable works by composers such as Brahms, Elgar, and Kabalevsky, among many others. She credits Cathy Allen for her insightful teaching and patience during her middle and high school years and has worked with many other instructors in and around the Bay Area. Hannah has played in youth orchestras since the age of eight and was given the opportunity to go on tour with the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra in three different cities in Cuba, as well as play in Summer festivals in Europe and the US. Though Hannah has been surrounded by classical music her whole life, she finds a lot of inspiration from a variety of other genres, such as jazz, rock, funk, hip hop, and more. She loves that the cello’s range is similar to that of the human voice, and sees potential in how that range can be framed within many different kinds of music.
