Island View Outfitters is a retail/custom screen printing shop in Isla Vista, CA run by former UCSB Gaucho, Garrett Gerstenberger and business partner Jose Cardoso. Started from an Isla Vista garage on Camino del Sur in 2008, and has evolved into a multi-entity business. It has officially amassed 10 years of official operation since the first lease was signed at 6565 Trigo Road in late 2009. Formerly Isla Vista Screen Printing, the company has evolved into our retail storefront that’s located in the same Isla Vista shop, known as Island View Outfitters. Their custom division, which is the custom and bulk manufacturing arm of the company, is High Desert Print Company.  High Desert Print Company is located in the rural Cuyama Valley; a strategic move for non-local and lower costing manufacturing space. HDPC is a social enterprise, where their work transcends the operations into community development, vocational experience, connection, and assistance.

Island View Outfitters has come a long way. To celebrate the retail division’s 10-year anniversary, we will be hosting a printing party on Saturday, February 22nd from 12:00pm-5:00pm at our store location on 6565 Trigo that’s sure to be fun for all ages.

Don’t know what a Print Party entails? We will show you our passion and craft by setting up two Isla Vista designs on our silkscreen press and show you how to print it onto a tee of your choice. Upcycle a blank from your drawer or or we will provide some for purchase.

BYOT (bring your own tee) = $10 per print

WPYT (we provide your tee) = $15 per print

In layman’s terms, we A) place the garment on a flat pallet on our press. We bring down the screen that is prepped with a specific ink color and a squeegee. Using two hands, you pull the squeegee, which will deposit and pass the ink through the stencil on the screen onto the tee. B) Once the garment is printed, we pull it off the platen and send it through our conveyor dryer. Once it reaches the other side, the ink is cured and you’re ready to rock it! Baddabing, badda BOOM!

In addition to our screen printing setup, there will be other vendors in attendance. We will have local artistry, such as Beachin’ Beads, as well as other organizations like Con Amor Candles (100% soy candles), and Sewing for Sam (a non-profit organization that makes fashionable hospital gowns for children in long-term hospital care and turns the scraps into scrunchies at 2 for $5, which is half the cost of a gown). We still have room for other vendors, too, and are welcoming additional interested groups to contact us before Monday, February 17th.

Please let us know if you have any questions! Isla Vista is home to many eateries, parks and our store location is less than a five minute walk to the beach. Come check us out and celebrate with us for our 10-year anniversary.
