Local Discoveries, Cosmic Implications Course

Get unprecedented access to the latest findings about black holes, supernovas, exoplanets, interstellar comets, and more, coming directly from scientists responsible for helping us understand the universe in new ways. Join Krissie Cook in Gladwin Planetarium at Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History on an immersive, interactive tour of groundbreaking discoveries from Goleta-based Las Cumbres Observatory. LCO is a global network of 27 telescopes at seven sites around the world, all working together as a single instrument. This six-class course includes talks and Q&A with key LCO scientists involved in the breakthroughs you’ll learn about!

Recommended for ages 16 and up, course meets Thursdays, October 8–November 12, 5:15–6:15 PM

About the Instructor
NASA Solar System Ambassador Krissie Cook‘s passion for astronomy began in high school, when she joined the Museum’s Quasars to Sea Stars teen work/study/intern program. After one summer in the space hall, she realized she would be happy to spend the rest of her life talking to people about astronomy. Thirty years later, that’s exactly what’s she’s done. Krissie has been the Astronomy Programs manager for the Museum, and is also an astronomy lecturer for SBCC, in addition to doing outreach for NASA.
