The painter, Komatis, is holding his first solo exhibit in Santa Barbara at the Faulkner Gallery (West Room) from January 2nd to January 31st 2020.

Komatis is a British-born painter, influenced by the “School of London” artists of the 1970’s, particularly, Francis Bacon, Leon Kossoff and R.B. Kitaj. After moving to California to study at Stanford University, Komatis was further inspired by the Bay Area figurative movement artists, David Park and Richard Diebenkorn.

The “London Eyes” exhibit encompasses a bold collection of acrylic on canvas paintings in both large and medium size formats painted during the last decade, which explodes with color and sensuality. While the primary style of the work is figurative expressionism, the artist also creates a complex and deliberate abstract backdrop for each painting.

The Faulkner Gallery (West Room) is located at the Santa Barbara Public Library, 40 E Anapamu Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101. It is open daily to the public (Monday to Thursday 10am to 7pm, Friday and Saturday 10am to 5.30pm and Sunday 1pm to 5pm).

An artist reception will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on “First Thursday”, January 2, 2020.
