Currently touring internationally with one of the biggest international artists on the global scene today, the Makarines are making a rare stop in Santa Barbara during a break from their Los Angeles performances for an intimate, one-night-only concert.  Performed in Spanish, their music transcends language through their artistry and signature sound, creating an unforgettable evening of flamenco music and fusion.

Makarines are a flamenco singing duo formed by brothers José Ibáñez (guitarist/pianist/vocalist) and Maka Ibáñez (cajón/vocalist) from Triana, Spain. Raised in the rich tradition of flamenco, their sound is both deeply rooted and refreshingly modern, with beautifully layered vocals that give their music a celestial quality. Their hallmark fusion style defies categorization while remaining grounded in the tradition of flamenco cante. Joining the Makarines are vocalists Aroa Fernandez and Claudia la Chispa.

The Makarines first came to Santa Barbara in 2013 as cantaores with Jesús Carmona’s company for the U.S. premiere of Cuna Negra y Blanca at the Granada Theatre, attended by more than 1,000 people. In 2022, they were featured in the Flamenco Arts Festival’s virtual series FLAMENCO ON FILM.

Important Note:  This performance is recommended for audience members ages 8 and older. Late seating is very limited once the performance begins, so please plan your arrival time accordingly.  Advance online ticket purchases are recommended, as the in-person Box Office has limited and irregular hours, even on the day of the event.

The Center Stage Theater is located downtown on the second level of the Paseo Nuevo Mall.
