Join the Association of Raza Educators (A.R.E.) in our vital mission to champion the rights and freedoms of the Raza community! We believe that education isn’t just a privilege, it’s a fundamental human right—the very bedrock of all progress. For too long, the educational system in the U.S. has been a source of oppression for our people. That’s why A.R.E. is dedicated to transforming education into a powerful tool for liberation and empowerment. Come be a part of making this right a reality for everyone!
On Saturday, May 24 at 5 pm to 7 pm, A.R.E Santa Barbara invites the community, educators, and students of Ethnic Studies to their first General Meeting of 2025. Partnering with the Ortega Park Steering Committee, A.R.E will have a special guest speaker, Damian Yazzie. An Urban Navajo graduate student, Damian Yazzie (born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico) grounds his research in the Southwest’s rich history and culture. His presentation “Nuclear Colonization” references the works of authors Rudolfo Acuna, Simon J. Ortiz, and Leslie Marmon Silko.
Come early and enjoy food that will be available for purchase, supporting local female-owned businesses.
