“Out of the Blue” is a recent series of landscape photographs by Patricia Houghton Clarke, taken during the winter and
early spring of 2026 in the wondrous moments of the night and pre-dawn. This exciting new collection of photographs is
a testament to her love of our natural environment and the magic that occurs between dusk and dawn.
“Patricia Houghton Clarke’s newest body of work, Out of the Blue, has been one of the experiences I will remember most as Curator. It began with a few images she took in the early morning hours, as the sun started its ascent, but not yet daylight. As she shared the images with me, I was struck by how much they seemed as though they could be paintings. The vibrancy of the colors and the shadows are so exceptionally different at that early hour.
Over the ensuing months the images kept coming from various moments in the day and night, the dark and light. It was clear that these photographs were important work. We decided to take a look at the collection to see if an exhibit was taking form. The answer is on the walls at Patricia’s studio.” Bonnie Rubenstein, Curator
