It seems that Tango music has always been around. You’ve heard it since you were little. You heard it in movies. You might have even seen people dancing to it, or dance it yourself. Where did it come from? Will it always be around? Will we still dance to it in the 26th century? What would it sound like then?
Pablo Aslan is an Argentine-born bassist and composer. Pablo is recognized internationally as one of the leading figures in traditional and contemporary tango. His extensive discography includes Piazzolla in Brooklyn, a jazz-tango tribute to Astor Piazzolla, and Tango Grill. The latter earned him nominations for a Latin Grammy Award (“Best Tango Album”) and a Grammy Award (“Best Latin Jazz Album”)
He is also an educator, a scholar, and a deep thinker that continues to probe the boundaries between jazz and tango, and between music you dance or music you sit and listen too.
We have the pleasure of his visit to Santa Barbara as he continues his task of cataloging what is one of the most important tango collections in the world. Yes. you heard me right: In The World.
