Indah Gallery
Indah Gallery presents “Perspective,” a solo exhibition by Jorge “Chucho” Hernandez, a Chula Vista-born artist and former Santa Maria resident. Working in oil on canvas and wood, Hernandez creates intricately detailed narrative paintings that use forced perspective and unexpected viewpoints to place viewers inside culturally, socially and spiritually layered scenes. Some of his larger works take two to three years to complete.
The exhibition includes works exploring Mexican and American cultural identity, music, spirituality, popular culture and contemporary street life. Featured pieces include “Tatted Up,” “Lotus in Bloom,” “Humble Narcissist,” “Man With a Blue Guitar” and the large-scale installation “Aztec Blessings for Santana Winds.”
The opening reception will take place Thursday, August 27, from 5–7 p.m. The exhibition continues August 28 through September 20. Hernandez will present an artist’s talk on Saturday, September 19 at 3 p.m.
Indah Gallery is located at 2190 N. Refugio Road in Santa Ynez and is open Friday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
