Quartet for the End of Time, a short film of immense depth and historical significance, as the President’s own Marine Band, plays the piece on the 75th Anniversary of its premiere in Poland in a Nazi prison camp (Stalag VII-A).
Filmmaker H. Paul Moon documents the journey of French composer Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992), and the development of his masterpiece, which was first composed and performed by Messiaen and fellow prisoners in 1941 for an audience of inmates and prison guards. Moon states, “I created this (film) to pay tribute to the United States military, in friendship with European countries at a time when apocalyptic themes remain timeless.”
The International Fine Arts Film Festival is honored to screen this film and make it accessible to the public for free. Performing arts Reviewer Daniel Kepl, will introduce the music and the film, which he calls, “…an absorbing incite into the depth of humanity’s hope in the face of overwhelming evil during World War II.”
