FORUM – a new evening-length work
October 23-26, 2025 | Hatlen Theater, UCSB Campus
This year marks Santa Barbara Dance Theater’s 49th Anniversary season, and fifth season under Artistic Director Brandon Whited (Assoc. Prof./Chair of Theater & Dance). This new evening-length work – FORUM – features collaborative choreography by SBDT company dancers Dalya Modlin and Calder White, and Brandon Whited. With explorations and process-driven choreographic methods, they developed the work in close collaboration with the dancers to highlight individual artistic voice while finding confluence and synergy for the piece as a whole.
FORUM will be performed by Modlin and White as well, alongside eight student apprentices: Sophie Berls, Charlotte Breier, Drew Caswell, Zorah Chappel, Tanner Carmichael, Lara van Diggelin, Bijou Douglas, and Kate Monney. The evening will feature new original lighting design by SBDT collaborator and UCSB Design Faculty Member Vickie J. Scott, and music by Michael Wall.
Performances will be held at UCSB’s Hatlen Theater from October 23rd to 26th. With a run time of approximately 60 minutes, shows are at 7:30 pm Oct. 23rd, 24th & 25th, and 2:00 pm Oct. 26th. The Friday evening performance will be followed by a post-show discussion with the artists.
