Santa Barbara High School’s annual Fall Dance Recital is here! Friday, December 16th at 7PM, at the SBHS theater, join the SBHS dance program for a night full of fun and dancing!

The SBHS Dance Program offers four different course levels: Beginning Dance 1, Beginning/Intermediate Dance 2, Intermediate/Advance Dance Production and Dance Team. Students are exposed to a variety of dance forms including Jazz, Hip-Hop, Tap, Musical Theater dance, Contemporary, Modern, Ballet, Ballroom, and Ethnic/Folk Traditional dances. From there, they are able to explore the history behind these dance forms and the prominent figures who created them.

At the end of each semester, students have the opportunity to showcase all the different genres they learned in class by performing in the biannual SBHS Dance Performance. The program also offers a “mini dons” workshop for students from kindergarten to eighth grade. The Mini Dons learn choreography created by the SBHS Dance Team and are then invited to perform at the SBHS home basketball games as well as the SBHS Spring Dance Recital.

Santa Barbara High is an extremely diverse campus that brings students together from all sorts of different backgrounds. The dance program highlights how all students, no matter their ethnicity, economic status or academic status can come together for the love of dance. Each year, a total of 150 or more students are enrolled in the program. Some have no experience in dance, while others join because they are interested in broadening their techniques, creative work, and performance experience.

No matter what their background is, dance helps students develop necessary skills for learning such as creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication. Our program helps students to express themselves through movement and serves as an outlet for many.
