Santa Barbara Jazz Society: Janis Mann @ SOhO

Award-winning vocalist and L.A. favorite, Janis Mann returns to the prestigious Santa Barbara Jazz Society series Sunday, May 7 from 1 to 4 pm with two renowned musicians: Jeff Colella on piano, Ken Wild on bass, and Dick Weller on drums. Both musicians are noted for their accompaniment of singer, Jack Jones and numerous other jazz luminaries. This exceptional trio “wows” audiences with a broad repertoire of soul-stirring ballads, hard-swinging modern jazz, sensuous Latin tunes, and spirited blues, all presented with Janis’ own deft improvisational twist. Beyond Janis’ vocal quality is imaginative delivery and interpretation that comes from experience in life as well as performance. The way she weighs and colors the lyrics in her singing, place her in rare company.

Janis has performed with Diane Schuur, Roy Haynes, Kenny Werner, Terrell Stafford, Dave Frishberg, Jack Sheldon, John Clayton, Eric Reed, the Caribbean Jazz Project, Roberta Gambarini, and many other jazz celebrities in addition to her own legendary shows. Her music appears in films and her recordings are a radio and streaming mainstay. Her new CD “Dreams of Flying” with pianist Kenny Werner will be released in early 2020. Regular admission to the event is $20 for Jazz Society members, $10 for professional jazz musicians and singers and full-time students, and $25 for non-members. We now accept credit cards for added convenience. Doors open at 12:30 and seating is limited, so plan to arrive early.
