Santa Barbara Revels Offers Free Acting Workshop

Santa Barbara Revels invites aspiring and experienced performers to explore their creativity, strengthen their stage presence, and have some fun at a free acting workshop on Saturday, October 10 at 12:30 p.m. at The Dance Hub, 22 East Victoria Street in Santa Barbara.

Open to adults and teens ages 16 and up, the workshop will be led by award-winning theatre educator, actor, director, producer, and movement specialist Matthew Tavianini. Through theatre games, improvisation, voice and movement exercises, storytelling, and character development, participants will explore acting skills and techniques in a welcoming and collaborative environment. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. 

The workshop is the first in a series of new community programs made possible through funding received by Santa Barbara Revels from the Hutton Parker Foundation. The initiative is designed to reach new community members and create more opportunities for people to experience and participate in the performing arts. For those interested in taking the next step, the skills explored in the workshop can also provide an introduction to the kind of ensemble performance and storytelling found in future Revels productions.

Tavianini brings more than 40 years of professional theatre experience and 26 years of teaching in higher education, K–12 schools, conservatory training, and community-based educational settings. For 25 years, he has served as managing director, producer, and actor with BOXTALES Theatre Company and is a co-founder of Lit Moon Theatre Company. He has also appeared in Santa Barbara Revels productions since 2010.

The workshop is free of charge and open to participants ages 16 and older, regardless of previous acting experience.
