ASIAN AMERICAN FILM SERIES presents A NIGHT OF SHORTS

Join us on Friday, February 28th for a captivating evening of short film screenings hosted by SBTHP and its Asian American Affinity Group, showcasing unique perspectives and powerful storytelling.  Whether you’re a film enthusiast, a supporter of Asian American voices, or just looking for an inspiring night out, this is an event not to miss.

A NIGHT OF SHORTS film selections include: 

HONOR THY MOTHER is the untold story of 36 Aboriginal women from Canada and Native women from tribes in Washington and Alaska who migrated in the 1940s to Bainbridge Island, the traditional territory of the Suquamish people.  

BASEBALL BEHIND BARBED WIRE paints the story of Japanese American incarceration during WWII through the lens of baseball and how this national pastime flourished in all ten camps, spanning from California to Arkansas.  

BENKYODO: THE LAST MANJU SHOP IN J-TOWN  tells the story of Ricky and Bobby Okamura as they wrestle with closing their beloved family-owned manju shop, Benkyodo, after serving the San Francisco Japantown community for 115 years.

  • Where: Alhecama Theatre | 215a E Canon Perdido 93101
  • Cost: Free for SBTHP members; $5 suggested donation for non-members 

                (A reception with refreshments & snacks will follow the screening)

  • Parking: Free parking behind PANINO Restaurant (834 Santa Barbara st.)
  • Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No RSVP required.
