Celebrate the successes of the One People One Reef (OPOR) collaboration in the outer islands of Yap State, Federated States of Micronesia, where modern science supports the knowledge and leadership of local communities in restoring critical coral reefs habitat. OPOR Senior Conservation Scientist and SBCC Professor of Marine Sciences Michelle Paddack, Ph.D., will reveal how activism, science, and collaboration across cultures are key to today’s conservation successes.
Dr. Paddack’s passion for education will capture your heart as you learn more about how she brings local undergraduates out into the field to actively participate in this important research. Her work focuses on interactions between corals, reef fishes, and humans, with the goal of supporting sustainable and vibrant ecosystems rooted in natural and cultural diversity.
Join the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History’s fun and friendly conversation, and quench your thirst for knowledge about science and nature. Like our real-life venue Dargan’s, this Zoom webinar is free!
