Take a freewheeling geology road trip down memory lane with the coauthor of Roadside Geology of Southern California. UCSB Prof. Emeritus Arthur Gibbs Sylvester, Ph.D., will regale us with geological stories of the mines of eastern California, including the Woodhouse Mine. Charles Douglas Woodhouse collected over 10,000 mineral and ore specimens, now stewarded by UCSB as an educational resource. Get the scoop on unique Woodhouse specimens which will be on display in our dazzling summer mineral exhibit, Rare Earth. It’ll be a talk to remember, starring spark plugs, ancient Bristlecone Pines, giant boulders, and a big bump in the night.

Join our fun and friendly conversation, and quench your thirst for knowledge about science and nature. Like our real-life venue Dargan’s, this Zoom webinar in the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History’s Science Pub series is free!

Science Pub returns in person soon, so enjoy these final days of listening to our speakers in your jammies from the comfort of your own home.
