After more than 25 years of making music on their own terms, electric folk rock duo SIRSY returns to Ojai Underground on Saturday, October 24, for their third appearance at the intimate listening venue.
Currently touring in support of their latest releases, including the singles ‘Little Phoenix’ and ‘Wolves’, SIRSY continues to build on a career rooted in independence, relentless touring, and a genuine connection with audiences. Their return to Ojai Underground brings together a DIY band and a DIY venue that share a passion for authentic live music and genuine connection with the community.
SIRSY creates a surprisingly powerful sound for just two musicians. Melanie Krahmer handles lead vocals and drums, bass on a keyboard she plays with her drum stick, and occasionally adds flute and melodica too. Rich Libutti plays guitar and bass parts simultaneously. The Ojai Underground show will also feature some stripped down moments, with Mel on the house piano and Rich on acoustic. Beyond their high-energy rock performances, the duo are compelling storytellers whose heartfelt songs, humor, and engaging personalities thrive in an intimate listening room.
“We’ve spent 25 years doing things our own way, so we have a special appreciation for independent venues that share that spirit,” says Libutti. “Ojai Underground is the kind of place where people really listen. We can rock out, tell stories, and connect with the audience in a way that allows every performance to be personal.” “That’s the entire reason we keep creating and performing” says Krahmer. “For that genuine connection to our audience and the community.”
The October 24 show will feature songs from SIRSY’s latest releases alongside longtime favorites, blending powerful rock music with intimate moments and the spontaneous connection that makes every SIRSY performance unique. After surviving two bouts with cancer, the pandemic, and Rich’s recent injury that took the band off the road for a few months- every show is a celebration of life! Come celebrate life with them.
