To be the anchor for a full-sized orchestra is quite a feat for a city of any size, but it’s truly a remarkable achievement for a small town like Lompoc! And add to that highly unusual possibility, this POPS ORCHESTRA also happens to be exceptional!

Behind the baton stands the creative and brilliant Dr. Brian Asher Alhadeff, who brings to THE POPS a delightful wit, impeccable conducting skills and a thorough knowledge of the music he selects and conducts. He’s well-known on the Central Coast as the conductor the the San Luis Obispo Opera Company orchestra as well as the principle conductor for Sant Barbara “Civic Balled” as well as the “State Street Ballet” orchestra.

Coupled with Dr. Alhadeff’s dedication and energy are the carefully selected musicians. This talented group lives up to the challenges of Dr. Alhadeff as they come together from all over the Central Coast four times a year to participate. Several also make the trek from Los Angeles, Bakersfield and even the Bay area.

Like other POPS ORCHESTRAS, the LOMPOC POPS offers a wide pallet of terrific and well-known pieces that includes everything from Broadway favorites, familiar TV theme songs, Big Band favorites, well-known Jazz compositions, beloved American musicals, sentimental long songs and patriotic heart-warmers. There’s also an occasional Opera aria or a short, familiar classical piece. In addition the conductor is always open to audience requests.

The venue is Lompoc’s beautiful First United Methodist Church (925 North F Street) and the final concert of the season takes place on Monday evening at 7:30 on June 20th. Ticket prices remain at $20.00 for adults and $5.00 for full-time students of all ages with student I.D. shown at door. For children 12 and under, admission is free.

Please call Connie Barlow at 805-757-8521 for additional information. Ticket reservations are accepted by phoning Evelyn Baxter at 805-733-1796.
