The City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department is inviting community members to volunteer for a National Trails Day restoration event on Rattlesnake Canyon Trail, one of Santa Barbara’s most popular hiking destinations.

Volunteers will assist with trail maintenance projects including clearing overgrown brush, improving trail surfaces, maintaining water diversion features, and placing deadwood to help restore and protect the trail. No prior experience is necessary. Tools, safety instruction, and guidance will be provided, and volunteers will work in small teams based on comfort level and experience.

The volunteer day begins with a safety orientation at Skofield Park before groups head out to the trail. Lunch will be provided for participants following the event.

The event is part of National Trails Day, a nationwide initiative celebrating outdoor recreation and trail stewardship, and is held in partnership with Santa Barbara County Parks, the U.S. Forest Service, Montecito Trails Foundation, Los Padres Forest Association, and SAGE Trail Alliance.

Space is limited to 75 volunteers and RSVPs are required.

To sign up, contact Eric Ullrich at EUllrich@SantaBarbaraCA.gov or (805) 564-5439.
