The UCSB Concert and Chamber Choirs presents Even When It’s Not Shining, a compelling program that explores the depths of trauma and the resilience of the human spirit, journeying from darkness to healing and hope. Featuring works by Ellen Reid, Sydney Guillaume, Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, and Tracy Wong, the evening’s repertoire captures the raw weight of struggle and the transformative power of music in the face of adversity.
Balancing this emotional depth, the program also showcases a vibrant set of zarzuela pieces, bringing the passionate energy and theatrical brilliance of Spanish operetta to the stage. Adding a touch of playfulness, Eric Whitacre’s Animal Crackers rounds out the concert with a whimsical, lighthearted charm.
Join us for an evening of powerful storytelling, heartfelt expression, and musical contrasts that remind us—hope endures, even when it’s not shining.
The Choral Music program at UC Santa Barbara is generously supported by the Steve and Shannon Sorensen Fund in Choral Music.
