Lotte Lehmann Concert (UCSB)
Please join us as the UCSB Middle East Ensemble presents its formal Winter concert on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 7:30 pm in the Music Department’s Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall, featuring a great variety of music and dance.
We are excited to feature an extended set of Persian music led by Bahram Osqueezadeh, with special guest tonbak
drummer Siamak Pouian and Javid John Mosaghedi, vocals. We will also present a song by the most famous Arab singer of the 20th century, Umm Kulthum, and two late-19th, early-20th century Arab songs, presented by Alondra Macario and our chorus. Additionally, Deven León will present an Ottoman song setting a poem by the 13th century Jalal ud-Din Rumi.
As always, the Ensemble’s Dance Company will perform a wonderful variety of dances from Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, and Turkey, with choreographies by Alexandra King, Ahmet Lüleci, and Jenaeni Rathor. We will also have an extended dance solo by special guest Tara DePaolo, with vocal accompaniment by Alexis Story Crawshaw.
