UCSB Library
UCSB Library presents a panel discussion that will present a national and international perspective on climate justice in conjunction with UCSB Reads 2020. Climate justice frames climate change as a civil rights issue in addition to an environmental issue. In Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore, UCSB Reads 2020 author Elizabeth Rush combines rigorous reporting and lyrical storytelling to depict the impact of sea-level rise in the United States and demonstrates how race, class, national origin, and income levels further exacerbate vulnerability to rising seas.
Chris Funke (Climate Hazards Center), Summer Gray (Environmental Studies), Justin Hosbey (Center for Black Studies Research), and Julie Maldonado (Environmental Studies). Moderated by John Foran (Sociology)
