Virtual Earth Day
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the Community Environmental Council (CEC) is hosting #TogetherWeEarthrise, a day of inspiration and engagement. Though we are unable to gather in person, we can take collective action to lessen our impact on the Earth. The event begins at noon on Wednesday, April 22 and is available to view at SBEarthDay.org.
Featured performers include Kenny Loggins, Glen Phillips, Tina Schlieske, Zach Gill and Michael McDonald. Featured speakers include past Earth Day Environmental Heroes Bill McKibben, Florencia Ramirez and Congressman Salud Carbajal. Local media favorites John Palminteri, Alys Martinez, Lin Aubuchon and Tracy Lehr will be virtual ‘emcees.’
In addition to watching the virtual festival, the community can participate in the two weeks leading up to the festival by:
-
Getting creative with the Earthrise photo through art, poetry, music (more details at SBEarthDay.org/togetherweearthrise) and sharing on social media using the hashtags #TogetherWeEarthrise, #CECSB and #SBEARTHDAY. These photos will be included in the livestream event.
-
Ordering #SBEarthDaySpecial items from restaurants and bars across town who will offer exclusive earth-friendly menu items from April 15 – 22.
