Coal Oil Point Reserve is currently seeking volunteers to join the Snowy Plover Docent Program.

Coal Oil Point Reserve is the first place to restore a nesting site that had previously been abandoned by a threatened species of shorebird, the Western Snowy Plover. Our docents play a crucial role in this success by educating the public about Snowy Plovers and ensuring that the protected areas are free from trespassing and dogs. Docents spend their shifts on Sands Beach teaching visitors about the threatened status of the Western Snowy Plover. Docents also ask beachgoers to avoid sensitive habitat areas.

Training will be provided and will focus on the ecology of Snowy Plovers, their habitat needs, and successful strategies for communicating with the public.
