Join us for a talk led by Iman Djouini, Assistant Teaching Professor, UCSB, and Jonathan Taube, Architectural Designer, and Lecturer, UCSB, whose “site reflective” project Light Elephant has journeyed throughout Downtown Santa Barbara throughout September 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed dynamic aspects of Public Space. Downtown Santa Barbara has been transformed by closing State Street to vehicles and sowing the seeds for a permanent promenade. This talk reflects upon downtown public spaces, exploring methods for deeper observation, and raising questions as to how public spaces can become more inclusive and empathic.
