Join the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History for an art workshop based on the exhibition Splendid Plumage and watercolor your way to the nineteenth century!

Tour the dazzling selection of antique hand-colored lithographs with Gallery Curator Linda Miller. She’ll lift the curtain on the exquisite scientific illustrations of naturalist John Gould. A leading ornithologist of the 1800s, Gould created remarkable lithographs and composite sketches of birds around the world. To produce luxury prints on a massive scale, he hired other artists who completed and hand-colored his work.

Try your hand at coloring a replica Gould print on watercolor paper—no prior experience necessary—guided by watercolor artist extraordinaire Tray London. Take home your masterpiece and a watercolor palette to continue your painting journey at home.

Recommended for ages 18 and over. Painting session will be held outdoors; please dress comfortably for the weather and bring a water bottle to keep hydrated.

Pre-registration required; buy workshop tickets online. Members $40, non-members $60
