Opportunity to volunteer to document data from Santa Barbara Botanic Garden’s collections as part of global citizen-science event Worldwide Engagement for Digitalizing Biocollections (WeDigBio).

WeDigBio is a global, data campaign, virtual science festival, and local outreach opportunity. All around the globe scientists will convert data from physical specimens into online databases. The activity of other biodiversity collections are displayed in real-time on the WeDigBio website (www.wedigbio.org) visualized by a global map of activity, and shown in a tally of digitized records.

The Garden’s Clifton Smith Herbarium participates in this year’s event with two volunteer sessions to apply barcodes to the museum specimens alongside a team of Garden scientists.

Last year, WeDigBio volunteers helped barcode 3,000 specimens over an action-packed two days.
