Children and youth age 8 to 16 are invited to learn the basics of birding at the Audubon Society’s Winter Bird Count 4 Kids. This free clinic will be held at Lake Los Carneros on Saturday, January 20 from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration is from 9:00 to 9:30. Participants needs to be accompanied by a responsible adult. Meet at the Stow House Parking Lot – 304 N. Los Carneros Road, Goleta

Lake Los Carneros in Goleta is one of the Santa Barbara area’s major birding sites. Some 260 species of birds having been spotted there including hawks and raptors, owls, ducks and wading birds, and rare and migratory birds.  The day will start with Binocular Boot Camp to master their use. Binoculars will be provided to those who do not bring their own. Next a naturalist will groups around the lake in search of birds, and birds spotted will be recorded and tallied. The first 75 participants will also receive a T- shirt.

The annual event is sponsored by the Santa Barbara Audubon Society with support from the City of Goleta, the Goleta Valley Historical Society/Stow House, Christ Lutheran Church, and the South Coast Railroad Museum.
