Youth Lead School Board Candidate Forum, Hosted by NAACP Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara chapter of the NAACP is hosting a youth-led forum for local school board candidates on the ballot this fall. Students from Santa Barbara Unified School District and Santa Barbara City College will pose their questions to candidates during the online forum scheduled for Sunday, October 16, at 4 p.m. Candidates will also have the opportunity to present their candidate statements.

Organized by the Education Committee of NAACP Santa Barbara chapter, the purpose of the forum is to give a wide representation of youth leaders in our community the opportunity to pose questions to the candidates who, if elected, will directly affect their educational experience as students in the District. The youth have a unique perspective and insight into which issues should be priorities for school boards.

“We believe youth voices are an important part of the political process and they should not be left out,” said Connie Alexander-Boaitey, President of NAACP Santa Barbara. “We look forward to the contribution they will make and we want to encourage youth to participate.”

Candidates in contested races for seats on the boards of trustees at Santa Barbara Unified and Santa Barbara City College were invited to participate in the forum. As of Octobers 1st Charlotte Gullap-Moore, Debi Stoker, Marsha Croninger, Dan La Berge, Gabe Escobedo and Rose Munoz have accepted the invitation.
