Kevin Costner’s passion project — Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 — had its U.S. premiere on Friday night at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Costner, a Padaro Lane resident who has generously hosted many nonprofit events for the community at his beachfront home over the past few years — including the One805LIVE! Concert to benefit first responders last fall — not only starred in the Horizon films (a series which tells the story of the settlement of the American West and is expected to have four chapters in all), he also served as writer, director and producer.

Following the screening, SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling moderated a panel that included Costner, Composer John Debney, and Costume Designer Lisa Lovaas. Horizon actors Luke Wilson, Michael Rooker, Georgia MacPhail, Wasé Chief, and Alejandro Edda also attended the premiere. Additional celebrities in attendance included Quentin Tarantino, Zachary Levi, Maggie Grace, Maria Bakalova, Lyndell Chee, Angela Sarafyan, Shawn Patterson, and Adam Carolla.

Closing the evening, Costner told the crowd: “I’m a romantic about what we can be and what we are. I would also like to just say to you as we end the night, thank you for honoring the film and filling this theater. I want to thank Roger, he brought films from around the world here. I just want to note, this is my home, this is where I make my home, and you made me feel like a giant tonight. Thank you!”
