Round Two: Liz Plus Marcos vs. Entropy

The first day Marcos came over to help I was curled in a pathetic heap on the cabin floor, battling exhaustion and a nasty cold. With the explosion of projects, there was nowhere else to sleep. He quickly returned with chicken noodle soup and ideas about our impending venture.

Trail Standards Needed

You’d think after six months of working on the front country trails, the public agencies would have a pretty good idea of the current trail conditions on each of the front country trails, have objective standards in place for measuring use, and a clear idea of who uses the trails and how often. Not so.

Wonderland of Rock

Though the temperatures are in the high 90s at midday, no matter, for the color only comes alive in the early mornings and the hour just before sunset, and the temperatures then are still cool enough to explore Valley of Fire State park.

Venoco Seeks Carp Expansion

Enviros, earth crusaders, and assorted other folks concerned with the well-being of our coastline got a new bogeyman this week as the draft Environmental Impact Report for a proposed oil and gas drilling operation in Carpinteria was released for public consumption. The hefty 763-page document details the good, the bad, and the ugly associated with the Paredon Project-a proposal from local oil heavyweight Venoco that aims to mine the crude oil and natural gas hiding in two existing state oil leases just offshore from the company’s property near the Carpinteria Bluffs.
