Matthew McAvene, The Solstice Jam Band Shine as Well

State Street’s SOhO will play host to Solstice Bash 2007, a concert and celebration following the Summer Solstice Parade June 23. The event will feature a performance by Dancing Drums, a community ensemble that will be festooned in brightly colored tunics and feather Mohawks with an equally neon appearance. Dancing Drums will also perform in the parade that will take place during the day.

Also featured in Solstice Bash, an acoustic rock performance by Matthew McAvene featuring puppets and a special effects show. McAvenue also designed the backdrop for the stage. Finally, the Summer Solstice Jam Band made-up of members of Amika and The Fuzz, Steve Campbell, Jon Payne and Jim Connoly. The band will be playing improvised, New Orleans-style funk. The band will also highlight special guests who will play percussion and horns.

The show starts at 9 p.m. and tickets cost $12. If wearing a solstice costume, ticket price drops to $10. Attendees must be 21 or older.

Dancing Drums is still looking for dancers to participate in the performance and volunteers to help push the float. Dancers must pay a $65 workshop and parade registration fee. For more information, visit the Dancing Drums website.
