Dorothy Alice Peacock Hendy Bittleston Tapie
Dear Mother,
What a fantastic and exciting life you experienced. You entered this world on February 8, 1920, at the dawn of the Roaring Twenties, and you lived your life with the same joie de vivre for which that decade is remembered.
As a young woman, you joined the Red Cross, married the handsome James Hendy from Carpinteria, and traveled to New Orleans to be with him when he was on leave. You loved the Court of Two Sisters, a favorite restaurant of your first granddaughter, Corina, who lives in NOLA now. Years later, you told us fondly of drinking Sazeracs in that city. Sadly James gave his life for his country all too soon.
You returned to California, met, and married our father, Don Bittleston. You supported him in his quest for a college education and started your family first in Los Angeles, with the birth of your first son Kent, then moved to San Francisco. You returned to Santa Barbara where Dad began his dental practice, and you added another son, Scott, to your family.
Dad and you loved to travel, and eventually you built your beach house in Mazatlan. More grandchildren, Holly and Don, added joy to your lives. Then you lost Dad.
After several years of loneliness, at age 84, you reconnected with and married your high school sweetheart, Don Tapie. You only had a short time together.
On Tuesday morning, April 7, you peacefully slipped away from us. You have left behind a legacy of family, travel, and adventure. As Grandpa Cliff always said, you were a “classy broad.”
You asked there be no services, but the family will gather privately to spread your ashes where you requested, at Big Drakes, with Dad’s.
We will miss you,
Love,
Kent and Scott
