Virginia (Ginny) Torrez-Urzua

June 17, 1950-September 2, 2010

Surrounded by her loving family, Ginny was called to Heaven on September 2nd after a brief illness with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She had a passion for life, a giving personality and a hearty laugh. Her love of children was recognized by all who knew her.

Ginny was born in Silver City, NM . She moved to Santa Barbara at 9 months of age and graduated from SBHS in 1968. In 1975, she married Rudy Hernandez and brought into the world three children: Jeannie Hernandez-Cordero (David), Michael Hernandez, Rudy Hernandez III and later adopted Joseph Cuellar.

She made lifelong friends wherever she worked. Many of those who were still by her side when she went to be with our Lord.

Ginny loved gardening, cooking, spending time with family and friends, dancing, singing and taking rides on the Harley with her husband Daniel. Of course she enjoyed being surrounded by her grandchildren.

Ginny is survived by her children and her husband Daniel as well as her siblings Gloria (Vincent) Bobby, Peter, Yolie & Vickie (Arnold). She is preceded in death by her Mother, Mercedes & Father, Robert.

She also survived by 12 loving grandchildren: (in age order) Larry II, Johnny, Jessica, Rudy IV, Samuel, Delilah, Jayne, Carlos, Dillon, Jenna, Mary Jane and Deuce.

Viewing will be Thursday, 9/9 from 2-7 pm at Welch-Ryce-Haider on Sola at State. Services are Friday 9/10 at 10 am at South Coast Church – 5814 Cathedral Oaks Road, Goleta. After the burial at Calvary Cemetery, please join the family to celebrate Ginny’s life at The Eagles Lodge – 923 Bath St., Santa Barbara.
