Andrew Andy Boehm
Andrew (Andy) Boehm collapsed and died on the street near his apartment in downtown Santa Barbara CA on Friday, August 13th, 2010. He was 68 years old. He is survived by his father, Werner Boehm (age 97), an advanced Alzheimer’s patient in New Brunswick NJ, and by his Uncle Eric Boehm (age 92) of Santa Barbara CA. Andy’s mother Bernice died years ago of early onset Alzheimer’s. Andy’s father’s second wife Laurie Horn Boehm lives in New Brunswick NJ.
Andy attended early grade schools in Glencoe IL and Madison WI, before moving with his parents to the Twin Cities in 1952. He graduated University High School (UHS), Minneapolis MN in 1960, attended Brown University, Providence RI 1960-63, and received a BA in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, circa 1966. He was an accomplished wrestler in high school and college, and a freelance researcher/writer/journalist for much of his adult life.
Andy was a resident of Santa Barbara for the last couple of decades. He lived alone, never married, and had no children. Andy did have many hundreds of professional and personal acquaintances (mainly in the alternative media, liberal political, and country/rock/bluegrass/blues/soul/oldies music worlds), as well as scores of long-time friends from his earlier days in Minneapolis MN, Madison WI, New York, LA, and San Francisco.
Andy was a lifelong Democrat and an avid Barack Obama supporter. He was also a long-time beneficiary of the Santa Barbara Community Housing program. Memorial donations could be made to either of those worthy causes, or to any progressive organization of your choosing.
