Jack Batchelor McCurry

May 1, 1971 – March 19, 2011

On Saturday morning, March 19, 2011, Jack Batchelor McCurry passed from this life. He fought a valiant battle and inspired all of us with his bravery and determination. Jack was a loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, grandson, classmate, teammate, coach, and friend. He touched many lives in his special way. Jack was known for his great sense of humor, huge and generous heart, honesty, sharp wit and intelligence, athleticism, contagious smile, devotion to family, and his powerful optimism. We will miss him tremendously and are grateful for the time we had with him.

He was born at home in Los Angeles, raised in Carpinteria and Los Olivos, graduated from Midland School and U.C. Santa Cruz. He went to Spain after college to seek his fortune and there he met his beloved Carmen. They married and settled in Carpinteria. Three sons, Andrew, Ian, and Sebastian were born to complete their beautiful family.

Jack had a successful business career. He contributed to his community through work with the Boys Club and AYSO. He was a passionate soccer guy and played most recently for Rosarito in local Sunday league. He was a member of UC Santa Cruz’s winning lacrosse team as they captured the Western Regional Championship in 1993.

Jack was a family man. His wife and boys were so important and dear to him. His devotion will give them strength to continue. He is survived by Carmen, his sons, father Barie, mother Jenifer, sisters Hilary and Sarah, grandmother Barbara, many loving uncles and aunts, cousins, nieces and a nephew. He also leaves loving family in Spain, Peru, and Norway.

We thank his medical team, Hospice, and all the many friends and family who helped through this time. The McCurry Children’s Fund has been set up at Santa Barbara Bank and Trust. A service will take place at the Carpinteria Community Church at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 26, 2011.
