Julia (Judy) Marie Campbell was born July 30, 1929 in Sommerville, Massachusetts. She died at the age of 81 on April 1st, 2011, in her home.

She married Matthew Campbell, the love of her life. Together they moved to Santa Barbara to raise their family of five children. Judy has been a resident here for forty-seven years.

Judy graduated from the Carne School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse. When she came to Santa Barbara she was part of the original staff at Goleta Valley Hospital, where she worked for thirty- three years. She took great pride in being a nurse and serving others.

She was a passionate gardener,particularly fond of her roses and irises. People often stopped to take pictures and compliment her on her garden. She also loved traveling. Her most recent trip was to Greece and Turkey in August with her best friend. Previous trips included visits to her children and grandchildren, to Medugorje, and Hawaii. Judy loved cooking and believed in keeping a well stocked pantry. Judy loved garage sales and swap meets. She was also well known for her garage sales.
Charitable organizations which Judy supported included St. Judes, Paralyzed Veterans of American, American Cancer Society, and St.Joseph’s Indian School.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband Matt, son Bruce, and her infant great grand-daughter Quarrie Mae.

She is survived by her children Nancy (John) Krehlik (Juneau,AK), Lin Campbell (Felton,CA), Aimee Campbell ( Houston,TX) , and Matt Campbell Jr. (Santa Barbara, CA) as well as her grandchildren: Cara, Bethany, Amberly, Maegen,and Lindsey Campbell, Emily (Nathan) Buck, Molly, Zachary, and Katie Krehlik, as well as three great-grandchildren: Kayne, Gunnar, and Jayden.

With courage and grace, Judy battled and won many bouts with cancer. Judy died peacefully surrounded by all of her children and best friend Kitty Williams. She will be missed by her family and many friends, including her constant cat companion Prince.

The Rosary will be at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church on Thursday, April 7th at 7 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church on April 8th at 10 AM. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

Donations in her memory may be sent to one of Judy’s favorite organizations or to Santa Barbara Visiting Nurse and Hospice.
