Gregory Sherman Patchett, Sr.
Former longtime Santa Barbara resident, Greg Patchett, died following a short battle with pancreatic cancer on January 10, 2012 in Merida, Mexico.
Greg was born on May 12, 1939 in Michigan to Gertrude Vail Patchett and Clayton Patchett. He and his family moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area when he was a boy and then to Southern California as a young adult. Greg attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and then Creighton University Dental School in Omaha, Nebraska where he received his DDS.
He moved back to the Santa Barbara area and practiced dentistry there for over 30 years. Greg always had a love for Central America and worked for the non-profit group Amigos de las Americas for many years helping provide children with immunizations. He then started his own organization, The Anacapa Foundation, to provide children in Belize with much needed dental care.
Greg also had a passion for golf and was a long time member at La Cumbre Country Club. After he retired from dentistry Greg moved to Belize and then lived his last few years in Merida, Mexico.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Schaeffer, Michele DeYoung, Gregory Patchett, Jr. and Marica Patchett, grandchildren Abigail, Bradley, Benjamin and Natasha DeYoung, Evan and Nina Schaeffer and a brother Michael Patchett.
