Shibie McDowell

McDowell, Shibie (former Violet N. Frost)

August 1, 1933 – June 3, 2012

Mom had many names but was known for one unique and feisty personality. She was born in Koloa town, Kauai, Hawaii in 1933, to Olympio and Rufina Nunez. After high school Mom joined the U.S. Army. As enlisted personnel for two years at Fort Lee Virginia, she met her first husband Frank J. Frost. Married in Washington DC in 1953 the couple moved to Santa Barbara where mom gave birth to; Frank 111, Esme (deceased 1972) and Victoria. Mom married Larry McDowell 1978. In 2009 Mom decided it was time to return to Santa Barbara to be with family and friends.

Shibie is survived by both of her former husbands, son and daughter (Robert Blanchard), grandchildren; Nic, Alex, Jacqueline, Kristin, and Jared Frost, great grandchildren, and her loving sister Rose, and three brothers. A special thanks to the staff at Serenity house for putting up with mom’s never ending antics and ceaseless energy.
