Micki Stern
In loving memory of Micki Stern, social activist, environmentalist, and animal advocate who passed away on Mar. 23rd due to complications from cancer. Micki received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in psychology from Washington University in Missouri. After moving to Santa Barbara, Micki became involved in the important environmental and social issues of the community. Known for her long-term social activism, Micki actively participated in GOO and the Sierra Club. She worked tirelessly on Bill Wallace’s campaign for supervisor and the Louis Capps, Doreen Farr, and Net Wolf campaigns.
A case service assistant for the State of California Department of Rehabilitation, Micki understood the pain of those who had problems, and was loved for her deep feelings and concern for people who were struggling to get back on their feet. She was a kind person and an exemplary citizen.
After retirement she volunteered at the Human Society and participated in groups at the Cancer Center of S.B. and the Center for Successful Aging, where she will be deeply missed. Micki adored her long line of dogs, and is survived by her beloved companion, Petey.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held in the lounge at Encina Royale on July 21st at 1 p.m. Please bring a dessert or hors d’oeuvres and a treat for Petey.
