John Henderson
Born December 8, 1926, Jackson, MO Died July 20, 2012, Citrus Heights, CA.
Bob was long time resident of Santa Barbara and UCSB architect in the early 70’s. He was chosen by the Isla Vista Community Council to head up a grassroots effort to transform Isla Vista from what was effectively a ghetto next to the campus. Bob said, “There were some big dreams in 1971, It was a challenge to get a consensus, with the groups involved.” He was later praised in a letter to the chancellor from a homeowners group for his effort as a model of cooperation between the community and the campus.
Bob served with honor in the US Navy during WWII. Received his Engineering degree from MIT. Registered architect in CA, OR, Hawaii, Arizona and Colorado. He is survived by two sons, Tom and Greg, 12 grand-children. Tom married to Terrin with children Caitlin, Conor Carolyn and Christin. Greg married to Beatrice with children Santiago, Augustin, Lilia, Evalina, Benjamin, Esteban, Dante and Francisco.
