Amos Joseph Almeida

Amos Joseph Almeida, one of the original 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, passed away at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in St. Louis Mo.on Friday, August 31, 2012. He was 90 years old.
Amos was born December 28th 1921 in Oxnard Ca. He was the oldest of 13 children born to Luis and Teresa Almeida. A World War II veteran, Amos parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and also jumped in Holland for Operation Market Garden then off to a brutal winter and battle in Bastogne in what became known as The Battle of The Bulge.
Amos received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his actions in Europe and in January of 2010 was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor by the President of the French Republic for his “valorous action during WWll and invaluable contribution to the liberation of France.”
Amos lived most of his life in the town of Reseda Ca.where he was employed in the Lumber business. He retired in 1986 moving to New Mexico where he lived for 20 years. Upon being widowed in 2006, he spent time with his sons in Oregon and Santa Barbara before spending his last years at the Missouri
Veterans home in St. Louis near his oldest son Frank.
Amos married the late Rose Marie Ferrer in Simi California in 1946, having three sons, Frank who resides in ST. Louis MO. with his wife Pam ( son Joseph and wife Cristine of Dallastown Pa.), Albert of Lake Oswego, OR. with wife Ricci, and Joey in Santa Barbara, CA with his wife Barbie (daughter Kelly SB, and son Alexander Portland Or.). He is also survived by 11 brothers and sisters, and over
50 nieces and nephews
His second wife of 32 years, Jeannette McCreary, passed away in 2006. Amos moved to Glendale, Missouri in early 2007.
