William Scott Van Nostrand, II

William Scott Van Nostrand II, 69, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, September 29th. Scott was born 21 July 1943 in Scranton, PA. He is descended from Jacob Janse Nostrandt who came to New York from Holland in 1638.
Scott grew up in Ridgewood, N.J. and graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1961. He attended the University of Scranton in Scranton, PA and graduated in 1965. Scott has resided in Manhattan, NY for 45 years. In 1996, Scott married Edna de Souza.
Music has always played a very important part in his life, and he was a professional Dixieland jazz trumpeter. He enjoyed yoga, meditation, and traveling with Edna to her home in Brazil; he and Edna were very involved in their neighborhood and in their church, Our Lady of Pompeii. He retired in July after a long career with the City of New York.
He is survived by his beloved wife Edna and loving family, including siblings: twin sister Anne Louise of Boston, MA; Mary of San Francisco, CA; Alice of Jacksonville Beach, FL; Len of Santa Barbara, CA, and Roselle of Neptune Beach, FL; nephews: Phillip Scott Van Nostrand of Santa Barbara, CA and Remy Cooper Van Nostrand of Neptune Beach, FL; and niece, Catherine Deidre Van Nostrand of Santa Barbara, CA; his sister-in-laws here in New York: Polly Johnson and Ana Maria de Souza. Scott is predeceased by his parents, William Scott Van Nostrand and Anne Louise Clap, and his brother, Bobby.
Scott was a gentle and generous man with a wry sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held Sunday, October 14th at 1:30 PM, at Our Lady of Pompeii, 25 Carmine Street in New York City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Scott’s name to the Church, Our Lady of Pompeii, 25 Carmine Street, New York, New York 10014.
