Mary L. (Cardona) Escobar
Mary L. Escobar (Cardona), age 76, passed peacefully on December 14, 2012.
Mary was known as “Betty” or “Aunt Betty” to her nieces and nephews; a nickname given to her as a young girl. Before retiring, Mary worked for many years as a baker for Santa Barbara City Schools and Cottage Hospital. Mary was well-known for her wonderful baked goods, especially her famous cherry cheesecake, enjoyed by family and other lucky recipients during the holiday season.
Mary loved antiques and collectables; and could often be found at second-hand stores or yard sales, hunting for treasures. She also collected many cookbooks and enjoyed reading recipes to get new ideas for baking. Mary loved watching the History channel and old black and white movies on the classic network channel.
Mary was a loving and devoted wife to Fernando; sister to Bob, Alfonso, Arthur, Lupe, Esther, and Ruth, who passed before her. She was a wonderful mother to her daughters, Ruth and Dianna; step-mom to Bob; loving grandmother to Jason, Amy and Paul; great-grandmother to Arcadia and Avalon; sister to Molly and Margie; and, will also be missed by her faithful companion – Pepper, the dog.
Special thanks from Mary’s family to Dr. Darol Joseff for his kind attention to Mary, as well as visiting nurse and Hospice Care.
Services will be held at Saint Raphael Catholic Church, Santa Barbara; at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 20th. Arrangements made by McDermott-Crockett & Associates Mortuary.
