Date of Death

September 3, 2015

Catherine Saporoso Micari Luca Alfano Architetto died September 3, 2015 at Serenity House in Santa Barbara, California, at the age of 95. She lived a rich and full life, having been happily married, and sadly widowed, four times. She survived the horrors of WWII, though her first husband did not. Trained as a dressmaker in Italy, she started three successful businesses in New York and employed a dozen people when she retired. She died, as she lived, on her own terms. Only weeks before her passing she was living independently and going to the beauty parlor weekly, as she had done for over fifty years. Still a natty dresser at 95, a friend referred to her as ‘la contessa’. Catherine loved to cook savory dishes from her native Sicily for family and friends, and did so until the last weeks of her life. At her passing, she was surrounded by family and friends who held her and loved her. She will be remembered and cherished always. Catherine is survived by her son, John, his wife, Lisa, her daughter-in-law, Juditta, her stepdaughter, Noreen, and four grandchildren, Gianna, Cicely, Sydney, and Mateo. Her friends are many, especially the parishioners of St. Anthony’s Church who showered her with love and kindness all of the years she spent in Santa Barbara. Their love and care will never be forgotten. A memorial mass will be held in Catherine’s honor this Sunday, September 20th, 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s behind the Mission.
