Walter Kohn

The family of UCSB Professor and 1998 Nobel Prize laureate Walter Kohn regrets to say that he passed away on April 19. Founding director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics, he joined the faculty in 1979. A public funeral service is planned for Tuesday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at Congregation B’nai B’rith, 1000 San Antonio Creek Road. We have been asked to encourage attendees to please carpool, as parking is limited. UCSB will also schedule a campus memorial at a later date, to celebrate Walter’s life and to pay tribute to the remarkable depth and breadth of his contributions to the world of physics, the Santa Barbara community, and broader social and political issues.
