Virginia Victoria Hawley
Virginia Victoria Hawley passed away on November 29, 2017 with her beloved granddaughter, Maya Adams, by her side. Born in Los Angeles February 28, 1925. She moved to Santa Barbara in 1962 after getting her teaching credential and speech pathology degrees at UCSB.
Virginia taught 2nd grade at Hope school in the 60’s and was a speech therapist for many schools throughout the district through the 70’s.
She founded the Santa Barbara Folklorico Ensemble and taught folk dancing in public and private schools.
She supported the Museum of Natural History and the Santa Barbara Zoo as well as many other animal charities.
Preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Marie Adams and son, John Charles Hawley, Virginia is survived by her granddaughter, Maya Adams and great grandson, Henry Adams Polli.
Virginia published four books of cat and nature poetry under the pen name, Kitty Duma.
